Mentor coaching helps coaches build their skills against the ICF Core Competencies through feedback on real coaching sessions.
ACC candidates (new and renewal) need 10 hours of mentor coaching, including at least 3 hours that are one-on-one. Our program provides 10 hours over at least three months, with at least 3 hours one-on-one and up to 7 in a group.
Joshua mentors ACC candidates — coaches earning the credential for the first time and those renewing it. He holds the ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential, renewed in 2026.
No. ICF makes credential decisions. Mentor coaching can provide honest, specific feedback and a clearer picture of readiness.
A lot of time is spent by the mentor coach preparing for a session. This may require watching and analyzing pre-recorded coaching sessions as compared to ICF standards, writing up comparisons and notes, or preparing lesson plans based on the needs of the group cohort. The one hour of a mentor coaching session can take upwards of two additional hours to prepare for.
No. Most clients use both, sometimes in the same session, depending on what they are working through.
